Tablesaw Kickback Demonstration
Explanation: I’ve always
wanted to demonstrate a real tablesaw kickback. I
believe if someone is properly educated on how this happens, it will never happen
to them. Personally, I have a very good understanding of how a kickback works
and I have never had a true kickback (other than for the sake of demonstrating
one). Please do not try to recreate what you see. The board was estimated at
traveling 104 m.p.h.
Why did the kickback occur?
1. The Splitter
was removed.
The
splitter helps prevent the board from binding on the back part of the blade.
2. The
anti-kickback fingers or stop was removed.
These aide
in stopping the board from being pushed back if it was let-go or forced back by
the blade.
3. A small
wedge was placed next to the fence pushing the board away from the fence.
A
push stick should always be used and should actually guide the board closer to
the blade-side. If the push stick guides close to the fence, the pressure
actually forces the board against the back part of the blade.
4. The board was released during the
cutting process.
